Concept Note

Owning a home is a keystone of wealth, both financial affluence and emotional security.” ― Suze Orman

Real Estate Laws revolve around anything dealing with real property i.e, land. These laws are a great step forward in terms of boosting transparency in the real estate market, increasing accountability of promoters and developers, and providing effective grievance resolution channels.

In India, RERA or The Real Estate Regulatory Act is a progressive initiative taken by the government to protect the interests of buyers, bring in transparency and make the real estate sector more customer-friendly. It contains many regulatory provisions which came into force in May’2017. According to the Act, real estate developers are expected to register their projects that fall under the scope of this Act by July’2017. The real estate community was in dire need and had time and again been demanding the setup of a regulatory authority to enhance the trustworthiness of the sector and its long-term growth. Developers also feel that the RERA was a crucial and much-needed step required for the progressive growth and longevity of the sector.

The provisions of the Act aimed at replenishing the confidence of buyers by actuating transparency and accountability and at the same time instilling more trust among investors worldwide. Some of the provisions will create a positive impact on the sector in the long run.
